CEO Founder
Desiree Somers | Chef & Pastry Chef | Edmonton, AB
With over 15 years of experience in culinary arts and pastry creation, I am dedicated to crafting innovative, flavorful, and high-quality treats that leave a lasting impression. My expertise spans both traditional and modern techniques, incorporating organic, gluten-free, and fermented ingredients to enhance both taste and health benefits.
Born and raised in Vernon, British Columbia, my passion for cooking and baking began at an early age. Working in my school’s kitchen and at a local tea house allowed me to refine my skills, eventually leading me to Vancouver in 1998, where I broadened my culinary knowledge. My journey has been shaped by a deep love for culture and a desire to explore global cuisines. While working in various restaurants, I learned from friends who generously shared recipes from their heritage, including Ghanaian, Somalian, Jamaican, Mexican, Italian, and Greek cuisine. This experience gave me a profound appreciation for the artistry behind cultural dishes and the joy of sharing food across traditions.
Today, I continue to expand my culinary repertoire by exploring Brazilian and Puerto Rican cuisine, adding exciting new flavors to my craft. My dream is to travel the world, learning firsthand from remarkable chefs, immersing myself in diverse culinary traditions, and bringing those influences into my work.
My professional path includes serving fine dining at banquets with DMH Hospitality Services in Vancouver, collaborating with esteemed chefs across various kitchens, and catering events ranging from intimate gatherings to large-scale functions of up to 300 guests. In 2011, I earned my culinary certification from Vancouver Community College, further solidifying my technical expertise.
At the heart of my work is a commitment to sophistication and quality, ensuring each creation is fresh, thoughtfully prepared, and designed to excite the palate. My passion extends beyond business—I actively contribute to my community through meaningful initiatives. Notable contributions include catering 200 baked goods for a women’s recovery retreat organized by Christian Life Assembly Church in Langley, BC, and serving at the IListen Canada Workshop in Edmonton, providing handcrafted treats to foster connection and positivity.
Additionally, in October 2023, I participated in the YEG Empowering You event at the Jerry Forbes Center, offering complimentary baked goods as part of a unique high tea experience. This initiative focused on entrepreneurs with disabilities, celebrating resilience and inclusivity through food and shared conversation.
Balancing my career with raising five children, I remain dedicated to creating exceptional culinary experiences while uplifting my community through innovative, health-conscious, and locally inspired offerings.
